Teaching Cannabis Basics at University of Anchorage, Alaska

Bailey Stuart COO of Green Jar walking into UAA for the very first class of Cannabasics.
Recently Bailey Stuart our Chief Operations Officer started teaching at University of Anchorage, Alaska. She has been an advocate for the industry before recreational was even introduced to the State of Alaska. Herself and a couple other industry members worked with UAA on creating a Cannabasics curriculum that is a 490 electoral credit class. They cover everything from history, rules & regulations, infusion, cultivation and manufacturing.
Donna Kerluk Finals Project: Queens Greens

Donna Keryluk who sparked the inspiration for the Cannabasics Class in her cap and gown graduation photo.
This class was all possible because of one woman, Donna Keryluk. For her finals project in the culinary program what she put together was an onsite consumption bakery called Greens Queens. This got her and Professor Riza Brown thinking that why is there no formal university classes on teach all things Cannabis! From there the rest is history. Did you know that Donna is one of our lovely prerollers for Green Jar? She is one of the people that makes all our high quality, marijuana flower only, prerolls for Green Jar!
Women on a Mission
Professor Brown and Donna had a vision, and they were women on a mission. They brought in some of the best industry and together they created the first cannabis curriculum for the University Anchorage Alaska over months of preparation. Some of the other industry members included: Aaron Ralph of Alaska Cannabis Exchange, Nicholas Gelinas of King Street Cannabis co, Jen Bersch owner of Salon DaVinci , Chef Bombshell and other prominent Alaskan cannabis leaders.

6-Week Intensive Course
Our C.O.O. taught the portions of the course that encompassed rules and regulations, retail management, history of cannabis in Alaska on a state & federal level and the dangers & liabilities of manufacturing and dosing. This was a 6-week intensive course and is being offered again in spring 2023 January 24th – February 9th. So keep your eyes out to sign up for the class early! Additionally, they are currently working on expanding towards creating another cannabis course for the University to offer. Eventually working towards creating an associate’s degree in Cannabis, wow how times have changed!
Changing Stigma of Cannabis Users
Did you know that CBD scrubs the neurotransmitters of older THC in the body? This is something that our C.O.O. Professor Stuart took away from Professor Ralph. No matter how long you have been a part of the industry there is always something new to learn! This is one of the reasons she is in this industry. The future is unknown, there is so much to learn, and it takes advocates like herself to spread new information and stop the spread of disinformation and to change the stigma of cannabis users. There is so much to learn, come join them this Spring 2023!
